How EVs Got Their Start

It’s no secret: hybrid and electric vehicles are set to take over the automotive world. More manufacturers like Ford are making the switch and dedicating themselves to a fully electric future within the next several years. But did you ever wonder how electric vehicles got their start? The reality is that they’ve been around for a lot longer than you’d think. Past, Present, and Future Although the past 20+ years have seen a huge surge of electric vehicles, they actually came onto the almost 200 years ago. The early to mid-1800s were the scene of a huge boom in technology and development, and as people looked for new ways to travel conveniently, they saw an opportunity in the invention of the battery. There were several drawbacks, though. For example, batteries in the first electric vehicles were single-use and disposable, and their range was highly impractical. On top of that, early EV speeds topped out under 15 MPH. However, that didn’t stop inventors from trying. Rechargeable batteries came along, but even those could only make it 50 or so miles before requiring another charge. Once the combustion engine was invented and saw mass distribution by the Ford Motor Company, electric vehicles fell by the wayside. Ford’s cars were affordable, practical, and convenient compared to their electric counterparts, and the combustion engine took over. The oil crisis of the 1970s made people look more critically at our fuel consumption, but most attempts at marketing EVs still failed. That is until the late 1990s when the Prius came onto the scene. Finally, electric vehicles became a possibility as drivers saw the convenience of a hybrid engine. Recent developments are happening quickly, with different automakers pledging an electric revolution to fight the climate crisis and reduce our dependence on fossil fuels. Today, there are more options than many ever thought possible. There are traditional hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric vehicles all across the country, and car makers’ investments are paying off. Options range from affordable family vehicles like the Ford Escape Hybrid to capable trucks, including the Maverick and F-150 Lightning. Even businesses are getting in on it with the availability of the E-Transit Van, saving them money while reducing emissions. This year alone, Ford is adding more electric vehicles to its lineup with plans to go all-electric within the next few years. They’ve also invested billions in bringing EV battery production to the US, creating jobs while impacting the environment. 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning Lineup

Ford Wins Two Edmunds Top Rated Awards

This year’s Edmunds Top Rated list came out with Ford being awarded in two categories. Both the Ford F-150 and F-150 Lightning won in their categories, with the F-150 winning now three years in a row for Best Truck. As a trusted source for automobile guides, Edmunds puts each vehicle through a series of tests, with its team of editors selecting the final winners from over 375 competitors. After edging out the competition, it’s easy to see how Ford came out on top in two of six categories. Representing the Present and Future of Ford With the history of the F-150, it comes as no surprise that this year's model earned top honors in the truck category. Alistair Weaver, Editor-in-Chief at Edmunds, acknowledged the impact the Ford F-150 has made over the years and the role it plays in the modern world. Weaver notes that it’s “more appealing to drive and more versatile than ever before” as Ford continued to adapt, update, and improve since its introduction in the mid-70s. Customizations are nearly endless, with several powertrains, bed lengths, and cabin configurations to appeal as a work vehicle and personal truck alike. The other winner, the F-150 Lightning, serves as the electric counterpart to the traditional F-150. It represents the future of Ford. By reimagining a mainstay such as the F-series, this Top Rated Electric Truck was a risk that has paid off. It boasts a range of 240 miles on a single charge with a 7,700lb max towing capacity – an impressive feat for any truck, but especially for an electric truck. With so many features, it makes sense that this isn’t the only award the F-150 Lightning has received. Since its release less than a year ago, it’s earned MotorTrend Truck of the Year, a 2023 Kelly Blue Book Best Buy Award, and even earned the Edmunds Best of the Best among many more awards and accolades. Ford Receives Top Honors at Thoroughbred Sustainability Partner Awards

Last month, the Norfolk Southern Corporation held their Thoroughbred Sustainability Partner Awards to honor companies like Ford Motor Company in their efforts toward Energy Efficiency, Environmental Stewardship, and Innovation. Ford was pleased to be named a top sustainability leader in the Energy Efficiency category, in large part due to their efforts to reduce waste along the supply chain. Learn more about how Ford contributes to sustainability and our planet’s future. Committed to Sustainability One of the keys to Ford’s success is their dedication to efficiency, with energy efficiency being a top priority in recent years. Finding new ways to do things isn’t always easy, but that’s precisely what got Ford its start and earned their honors at this year’s awards. They apply energy efficient techniques to every step of the automotive development process, from the corporate level to the partnerships they form, in order to maximize at each level. Ford’s director of global sustainability Mary Wroten notes the company’s commitment to going above and beyond by encouraging and supporting their suppliers as part of the sustainability process. [gallery link="none" columns="2" size="full" ids="397,398"] Ford’s goal of carbon neutrality by 2050 is a worthy one, and it’s easy to see how that could be possible. It all starts at the source, with sustainable raw material sourcing all the way to production – and step in between. In addition to sourcing materials, Ford is building US-based battery manufacturing and solar power plant. The list of Ford hybrid and electric vehicles is a long one, and it only keeps growing every year as demonstrated by a $22 billion investment. Even the iconic Mustang now comes in an all-electric version, with various hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles like the Maverick and F-150 Lightning now available as well. Each vehicle in the electrified lineup demonstrates Ford commitment to the future of the environment and making the most of the energy we have to use now. Part of their investment is going towards their goal of becoming carbon neutral and producing an all-electric lineup of vehicles within the next several years. Ford F-150 Lightning

F-150 Lightning Named 2023 North American Truck of the Year™

Benna Ford is proud to announce that Ford’s first EV truck, the F-150 Lightning has just won the 2023 North American Truck of the Year Award™.  Ford is on a roll with this award as last year, the Ford Maverick received the honors. This is how NACTOY describes the purpose of their award: “The awards are intended to recognize the most outstanding new vehicles of the year. These vehicles are benchmarks in their segments based on factors including innovation, design, safety, handling, driver satisfaction, user experience and value.” Car magazine awards such as Motor Trend’s Car of the Year, or Car and Driver’s 10Best are important achievements and we at Benna Ford are certainly proud whenever a Ford model wins one.  But the North America Car/Truck /Utility Vehicle of the year awards are even more special because rather than being the opinion of a single publication, the North American Truck of the Year Award is judged by a jury of 45 print and broadcast automotive journalists from across The United States and Canada.  Among the juror comments regarding the F-150 Lightning: “When America’s best-selling vehicle goes electric you know the transition has momentum. Ford’s effort to create an all-electric F-150 is remarkable because it combines the standard truck’s dimensions, which means it retains massive aftermarket support, with substantial upgrades to areas like storage and mobile power support. It’s really the best of all worlds, giving the F-150 Lightning a wide range of applications for both traditional and new-to-the-segment truck customers.” –Karl Brauer, iSeeCars.com, Forbes “Save the reinvention. The F-150 Lightning shows how the most familiar vehicle in American life can be made even better as an EV, and it’s fantastic.” –Bengt Halvorson, Green Car Reports Vehicle shown with available and aftermarket equipment. See Owner’s Manual for important operating instructions. At a glance, the Lightning has the same size, proportions and styling that has made the F-150 America’s best-selling truck.  Open the hood, and in place of an engine, you will find 14 cubic feet of lockable storage space. Inside the standard 4-door cabin, you will find all models equipped with Ford’s Co-Pilot360™ Technology and a 12-inch multimedia screen. The MSRP for the F-150 Lightning Pro starts at $55,974* All models feature two motors for 4-Wheel Drive and a 4-wheel independent rear suspension. Range varies from 240 miles on the Pro grade to 320 miles on the XLT and Lariat grades. The Pro will go from 0-60 in 4.1 seconds while the XLT, Lariat and Premium will get there in under 4 seconds.  All F-150 trims also feature a selectable One Pedal Driving Mode in which the most acceleration and braking is done by simply modulating the accelerator pedal. Towing capacity starts at 7,700 pounds and can be increased to 10,000 lbs with the Extended Range battery.  All of the F-150 towing systems available include Pro Trailer Hitch Assist, Pro Trailer Backup Assist™, and Trailer Reverse Guidance.  All trims, with the exception of the Pro grade, come standard with the convenient 360-degree camera. 2023 Ford Bronco Heritage Editions Outside

Ford Bronco and Maverick Make Car and Driver's 10Best List

For 40 years now, Car and Driver has released a 10Best list of the top vehicles produced each year. This year’s 40 th anniversary of the prestigious list marks a separate list for trucks and SUVs, and the Ford Bronco and Ford Maverick are excited to have made the list. What Makes the Bronco and Maverick the Best of the Best? In order to make the list, vehicles must meet certain criteria set by Car and Driver. They’re judged on a 100-point scale including categories like value, purpose, and how much fun they are to drive. A vehicle should demonstrate that it can operate under it’s intended purpose while remaining practical yet entertaining to the consumer. This is the first year that the publication separated vehicle types into categories, with other parameters to entry like release date and final cost. Such strict limitations are what make it so exciting that two Ford vehicles were able to inch past the competition to make the list. This is the second year in a row that the rereleased Ford Bronco made the list. One of the things that Car and Driver loves most about the Bronco – and we here at Benna Ford love that about it, too! From the off-road capable Raptor to the throwback Heritage and Heritage Limited models, there are over ten different options to choose from, each with unique features and styling. There’s the Everglades, which is outfitted with a snorkel system and winch kit; then there’s the Base. Even at its most basic, the Bronco comes with all-season tires and G.O.A.T. Modes (Goes Over Any Terrain), which are sure to please. [gallery link="none" columns="2" size="full" ids="381,382"] Then there’s the Maverick, Ford’s practical hybrid truck, which comes in at a starting MSRP of just $22,595. It’s a lot smaller than most trucks, but that’s precisely the attribute that helped it earn its spot on the 10Best list. This subcompact truck is small enough for easy maneuvering and daily use, but large enough to haul and tow when needed. Its standard hybrid powertrain achieves a maximum 500-mile range, but there’s a 2.0L Ecoboost engine option for those searching for a bit more oomph. Its FLEXBED system and multi-position tailgate allow for optimized hauling, and there are several customization options – like a bed extender and performance packages - to fit anyone’s needs. Find Your Ford at Benna Ford Own a piece of Car and Driver’s 10Best at Benna Ford! We currently have 2023 Bronco models in our inventory, with Maverick models expected to arrive soon. If you can’t wait for your Maverick, we can also help you place a custom order to get a head start. Contact us today to learn more! We look forward to helping you find your next Ford.

Ford EV Battery Pack in Production

Ford Increases Production of EV Batteries in United States

Electric power represents the future of the automotive industry and in the Ford lineup - that includes the 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning, the 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-e and more. The addition of electric vehicles (EVs) to the Ford lineup translates to a higher demand for lithium-ion batteries. In response to this increased demand, Ford has increased production of EV batteries in the United States with a brand-new battery production park in Hardin County in Kentucky that is expected to create more than 5,000 jobs in conjunction with BlueOval SK. more View Our New Ford Inventory Contact the Benna Ford Team How Many Electric Vehicles Does Ford Produce? The increased popularity of electric vehicles like the Ford F-150 Lightning and the Ford Mustang Mach-e means there is an increased demand. With the annual growth rate for Ford EVs expected to pass 90% by 2026, the automaker has worked to increase its production capabilities and hopes to produce 600,000 electric vehicles globally by the second half of 2023. Ford hopes to increase that production to more than 2 million annually by the year 2026. > How Long Do Ford EV Batteries Last? Longevity is a concern for many car buyers who are interested in all-electric vehicles like the Ford F-150 Lightning. Ford EVs employ lithium-ion batteries that provide an impressive lifespan and the higher the kWh rating for your vehicle’s battery, the longer it can be expected to last. Lithium-ion batteries can be expected to last 15 - 20 years. Drivers can expect electric vehicles to provide from 100,000 to 200,000 miles of drive time on a single battery. How Much Does it Cost to Replace a Ford EV Battery? In the event that your Ford Mustang Mach-e is built with a faulty battery, you may want to know how much it will cost to replace. Lithium-ion batteries used by Ford EVs are expensive and make up a significant percentage of the vehicle price - which makes them expensive to replace. Ford EV batteries can range in price from $10,000 to $25,000. To protect you from this expense, Ford EVs come standard with an 8-year/100,000-mile Electric Vehicle Battery Warranty and the battery must retain a minimum of 70% of its original capacity in that period of time. silver truck of the year f-150 lightning

F-150 Lightning Named Truck of the Year

What Is the Best Truck to Buy for 2023? We’ll admit it. Here at Benna Ford, we are a bit biased toward our Ford models. We are a Ford dealership, after all. And although our love for Ford models is far more than just a sales pitch (we really do love them), we understand that you may be hesitant to take a Ford dealer’s word for how great a Ford model actually is. more That’s OK because there are plenty of organizations and individuals out there who also love Ford modes even though they are not involved with the Ford Motor Company in any way, shape or form. So, when we ask the question of which truck is the best one you can buy for the 2023 model year, we would say it’s tough to beat the Ford F-150 Lightning. But we aren’t the only ones that think this. In fact, the model was named the MotorTrend Truck of the Year for the 2023 model year, becoming the very first electric truck to earn the honor by unanimous vote. What Makes the F-150 Lightning Such a Great Pickup? Times are changing, and although you may not yet think of Ford as an electric vehicle company, the truth is that Ford is the No. 2 electric vehicle brand in the U.S. Much of that success is thanks to the Ford F-150 Lightning. Some of the benefits of the F-150 Lightning include its instant torque. Being battery-powered, torque is direct and available without any of the delay you’d typically find from a gasoline- or diesel-powered engine. Another benefit to being battery-operated is that you have a lot more space for cargo. Not only do you have the rear bed like in a normal pickup, but you also have all that empty space where the engine usually goes. The “engine bay” in the Ford F-150 Lightning is actually a cargo bay, similar to the trunk on a car, giving you an enclosed storage area. The model has an available driving range of up to 320 miles, up to 10,000 lb towing capacity and can launch from 0-60 mph in under 4 seconds. The 2023 F-150 Lightning has a starting MSRP of $34,585. To learn more about it, call the auto experts here at Benna Ford.

Automotive Performance Group Unveils ProRunner Package for Bronco Sport

Does the Ford Bronco Sport Have a ProRunner Conversion Package Though Ford models like the Bronco Sport have plenty of trim levels that will suit the majority of drivers out there, it would be impossible for Ford to anticipate the driving needs and desires of every single person who might buy such a vehicle. That’s where third parties come into play, displaying their appreciation and love for a model like the Bronco Sport by taking it upon themselves to equip it with unique features and styles. more To be more specific, we are referring to the Automotive Performance Group (APG), which has developed ProRunner versions of your favorite Ford vehicles. They already had a ProRunner version of the Ford Ranger, but now, they also have a Ford Bronco ProRunner Package. What Comes With the Bronco ProRunner Package? Though the Ford Bronco is well equipped, the APG package adds quite a lot of capability for those who really want to experience the Bronco Sport in a new form. Much of this is in the area of the suspension. The Bronco Sport ProRunner is equipped with APG’s Bronco Long Travel Front Suspension System that features a net 16.5 inches of wheel travel, King Race Series coilovers and triple bypass shocks. The coilovers and shocks can be found in both the front and rear of the vehicle. The front and rear also both features aerospace-grade carbon fiber fenders. These are 7 inches wider per side compared to the factory model. Plus, speaking of carbon fiber, the ProRunner Bronco Sport also boasts a carbon fiber hood insert and hardtop. It’s amazing to see the heights that a model like the 2023 Ford Bronco Sport can be taken. If you’re interested in learning more about the vehicle, contact us today at Benna Ford.
