2025 Ford Mustang
2025 Ford Mustang

The Ford Mustang has been an American icon since it first appeared at the 1964 New York World’s Fair, spinning around on the always popular Ford Pavilion on the Wonder Rotunda. Introduced as a 1964.5 model, the Mustang would prove so popular that 22,000 cars were sold by dealers the first day sales were open. Between all ’64.5 and ’65 model year cars, the company sold 681,000. By the time the Mustang had been around for two years, Ford sold over 1 million models. A Mustang convertible and coupe were driven by Bond girls in the James Bond hits Goldfinger and Thunderball.
Now in its seventh generation, the S650 2025 Mustang celebrates 60 years of being one of the most successful cars built and sold each year. It regularly outperforms its competition in both sales and performance, and the latest model builds on a rich tradition while offering even more luxuries and amenities for everyday use.
New for 2025: The Ford Mustang adds the extra special, and extra limited, 60th Anniversary Package that is available on Premium trim GT coupes and convertibles. It features special 20-inch Dark Gravity Gray five-spoke wheels with a red center cap that is a direct call back to the center caps on 1965 Mustang models. Only 1,965 Anniversary Package cars will be produced in Wimbledon White, Race Red, Vaper Blue, and Brittany Blue (only available as a coupe with the 10-speed automatic).
Performance

The 2025 Ford Mustang is available in ten offerings to suit almost anyone’s budget and needs, starting with the base EcoBoost Fastback and ranging from the track-ready weapon Dark Horse Premium to the new and fresh 60th Anniversary Package.
The EcoBoost models come with a twin-turbocharged 2.3-liter 4-cylinder that puts out 315 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque, combined with a 10-speed fast-shifting automatic transmission with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters. The 2025 EcoBoost Mustang loses the ability to add the High Performance Package.
For those buyers that would still like a V8 in their pony car, the Mustang has a 5.0-liter Coyote V-8 that produces 486 horsepower and 418 lb-ft of torque in GT, GT Premium, and GT Premium convertible trim levels. A Performance Package brings Dark Horse Brembo brakes and optional MagneRide adaptive dampers, giving the GT a more focused driving experience. Unlike the EcoBoost, the Mustang GT is available with a 6-speed MT-82 manual transmission, but buyers can still choose the 10-speed automatic if they choose. In Car and Driver’s hands, the GT Performance Pack Mustang shot to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds and blasted through the quarter-mile in 12.5 seconds at 114 mph.
The Mustang Dark Horse uses the same Coyote engine as the standard GT but with 500 horsepower, while retaining the same amount of torque. It further one-ups the standard GT with more track-focused suspension, chassis tweaks with larger anti-roll bars, and stickier Pirelli Trofeo RS tires when the optional Handling Package box has been checked. Dark Horse buyers will appreciate the Tremec 3160 6-speed manual transmission that could be found in the now-out-of-production Mach 1 and GT350 models. Zero to 60 mph times are consistent at 4.1 seconds, with quarter-mile times matching those of the standard GT at 12.5 seconds at 115 mph. However, the Dark Horse is meant more for lots of corners than long straights.
When Car and Driver recently did a 0-150-0 mph test, the Dark Horse actually beat out the Porsche 911 Turbo S and Corvette Z06 in stopping distance. The C8 Corvette Z06 needed 604 feet to stop from 150 mph down to 0, while the 911 Turbo S needed 586. The Mustang Dark Horse? It only needed 569 feet.
A unique feature of the GT Performance Package and Dark Horse models is the addition of the Drift Brake. This manually operated electronic parking brake allows for easier drifts and donuts when on a closed track.
Exterior

The exterior styling of the new S650 Mustang is meant to be both classic and forward-looking. In terms of design, the new Mustang is not a radical change. It is immediately evident upon first glance that this is undoubtedly a Mustang, yet it is just different and unique enough from previous generations.
All coupes and convertibles feature tri-bar LED headlights that match the use of the tri-bar taillights. The lights pulsate when the car senses the key is near, and then all the lights illuminate after a few seconds. The S650 differentiates itself from the previous S550 generation with its all-new rear end that is more angled. The trunk lid is longer and flatter, and the taillights, while still tri-bar lights like on almost every Mustang before, are now smaller and slightly angled, like most other parts of the car. The sleek, long hood gives way to heat extractors for GT and Dark Horse models, while maintaining an elegant style for EcoBoost cars. The front grille is now wider to allow more air, and V8 cars have angled lines at either end that line up with the intakes at each corner.
60th Anniversary Package cars get a special mesh grille that is a callback to the original 1964.5 Mustang model that debuted in the spring of 1964. Anniversary cars also get unique fender and trunk cloisonné-style badges in either Iconic Silver or Vermillion Red that show 5.0 on the fenders, and GT with “60 Years” underneath on the trunk badge. These are very similar to the style of cloisonné badges that were featured on the original ’65s.
Anniversary cars further distinguish themselves with unique 20-inch Dark Gravity Gray five-spoke wheels that feature red center caps just like those on a 1965 Mustang. The headlight housings of the Nite Pony headlights are now smoked to give a menacing look. Buyers can choose either Wimbledon White, Race Red, or Vapor Blue, plus the even more exclusive Brittany Blue in only coupe form with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Cars painted in Race Red, Vapor Blue, or Brittany Blue will receive Iconic Silver mirror caps, with Wimbledon White models getting body-color mirror caps.
Interior

The latest S650 really shines with customers once they step inside. The materials are more high-end, with leather padding on the transmission tunnel for the knees of the driver and passenger, a leather-trimmed dashboard, and two big displays for the instrument cluster and infotainment system. The seats are standard cloth or leather, with manual Recaro buckets as an option. The standard seats are available with heated and ventilated functions. Ford says the interior is inspired by fighter jets, which basically means that everything is where you need it, and you have a clear view out of the car.
While luggage space isn’t the first thing that comes to mind in a Ford Mustang, the new coupe features 13.5 cu-ft of trunk space, and even more when you fold the rear seats down. Convertibles have a respectable 11.4 cu-ft of cargo space in the trunk.
The new square-bottom steering wheel features all the buttons you need to change settings and music while driving. It also features steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters for automatic-equipped cars. Those who purchase a 60th Anniversary Package Mustang get a serialized instrument panel badge in the passenger-side dash trim.
Technology

All models have a 12.3-inch gauge cluster display connected to a 13.2-inch touchscreen infotainment display that allows for lots of customization, whether that be interior mood lighting, various driving modes, exhaust modes, and much more. Thanks to that new infotainment display and Sync 4, using your voice has never been more powerful. Using various voice commands, drivers can change the interior temperature, search for destinations, change the radio station, play a specific song, and much more.
The Heritage digital gauge cluster in the S650 Mustang features the ability to change the gauges to mimic the classic Fox Body Mustang of the ’80s and early ’90s. Now for 2025, owners get the gauge style from a 1999-2001 Mustang SVT Cobra. 2024 and 2025 Mustang models also get special digital 1967-style gauges. 2024 models will get an over-the-air (OTA) update with the new gauge cluster.
All 2025 Mustang models come standard with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for even more connectivity. A 12-speaker premium Bang & Olufsen sound system is optional, as is a wireless charger just in front of the shifter.
