The Ford Transit chassis cutaway and cab models are derived from the country's best-selling van and thus provide a superb backbone for the kind of commercial, utility, or RV body you want to add to it. They offer flexibility tools, technology, and pre-prep packages to streamline your conversion process. Cutaway models provide direct interior access to the attached main body, while the Transit Cab features a fully enclosed cab for applications like delivery boxes, utility bodies, and flatbeds.

Performance

The Transit chassis can be powered by one of two engines. Both are, at their core, 3.5-liter V6 engines. The base version has a horsepower rating of 275 @ 6,250 and a peak torque of 260 lb-ft @ 4,000. Making sure you are always running at the optimal ratio, the engine is paired to a 10-speed automatic with SelectShift ability, sending power to the rear wheels. The fuel tank holds 25 gallons.

When more power is needed, the available 3.5-liter EcoBoost® V6 turbocharged engine offers 310 hp @ 5,000 and a heavy-duty 400 lb-ft of torque, peaking at a low 2,500 rpm. This engine is also paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Also on hand are an engine block heater, dual AGM batteries (70 Amp-hr each), and a dual alternator (250 amps each). The vehicle also includes an auxiliary fuse panel with a High-Spec Interface Connector and a 31-gallon extended-range fuel tank.

The front suspension is independent, with MacPherson struts and a stabilizer bar. The rear rolls on leaf springs and heavy-duty gas dampers. Chassis technologies include AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control™, Side-Wind Stabilization, and Hill Start Assist. The parking brake is generally electronically activated but remains manual for 9,950 / 10.360 lb. configurations.

Exterior

2025 Ford Transit® Cutaway models are available in three lengths: 138", 156", and 178", with a GVWR from 9,070 to 11,000 lb.? When looks matter, you can opt for a body-color front bumper and integrated fog lamps. Outside mirrors can be short or long-armed, depending on your needs, and headlights can be upgraded from standard Halogen to High-Intensity Discharge. Standard are 16-inch silver steel wheels with black hubcaps. Full-wheel covers are a low-cost option, and there are two steel and five 16-inch wheel designs available.

Standard colors include Oxford White, Race Red, and School Bus Yellow. There are six optional colors at just an additional $200 a piece, including:

Interior

The Transit cab comes standard with seating for two, though a 3-seat bench is available. Vinyl seating is standard but can be upgraded to cloth. When access to the rear from the seats is important, lighter models include an electronic parking brake removed from between the seats to provide improved clearance. Bucket seats can also be ordered without center armrests for the same purpose.

Additional standard features include an overhead shelf, airbag cut-off switch, two 12V power points, and a center console with storage and cupholders, which can also be deleted if access to the rear is a priority.

Technology

Standard is an AM/FM stereo with a 4-inch display and additional sources via Bluetooth or two USB data ports. A 6-speaker system is optional. Also available is the SYNC 4 operating system with on-board navigation on a 12-inch display. The system can include Traffic Sign Recognition and Intelligent Speed Assist.

The Ford Pro Telematics system, available by subscription, enables you to instantly locate your vehicle and determine how it is being used and running. System modems come standard in 2024 Ford Transit® Cutaway models or an available plug-in device can connect your entire fleet, even if they are not Ford vehicles.

Safety and Driver Assistance

The cutaway is designed with several standard safety and driver-assist technologies, including:
